Post-op rehabilitation is a critical aspect of recovery for individuals who have undergone surgery. Physiotherapy plays a key role in your recovery. We work with patients to restore strength, mobility, and function to the affected area after their operation. The specific interventions and techniques used may vary depending on the type of surgery you had and your individual needs.
Shoreside Physio can help with:
- Elective Total Joint Replacement- Hip/Knee/Shoulder
- ORIF Surgical repair post trauma
- ACL repairs, Meniscectomy, Knee Arthroscopic repairs
- Rotator cuff repairs and shoulder stabilisation
- Elective Spinal Surgery
In general, we focus on the following areas during post-op rehabilitation physiotherapy:
- Pain management: After surgery, it is common for patients to experience pain and discomfort. We use a range of techniques to manage pain, such as manual therapy and specific exercises that promote blood flow to the affected area and help to reduce inflammation
- Range of motion: Surgery can often result in stiffness and reduced range of motion in the affected area. We’ll use gentle stretching and range of motion exercises to help restore movement and flexibility to the affected area.
- Strength and endurance: Surgery and the resulting period of rest can lead to muscle weakness and decreased endurance. We’ll help you to strengthen specific muscle groups and help restore strength and endurance to the affected area.
- Functional activities: Depending on the nature of the surgery and your individual needs, we may incorporate functional activities into your rehabilitation physio. These activities mimic everyday tasks that you need to perform and help to improve your coordination and balance.
- Education and advice: Throughout the rehabilitation process, we’ll provide education and advice to help you manage your recovery at home. This may include tips on managing pain, instructions on how to perform exercises safely, and advice on how to prevent re-injury.
